Meet the Vivi H2S-2

There’s something undeniably cute about mini skateboards. They are tiny, light, easy to carry, and lots of fun for kids and beginners.Vivi H2S-2 Electric Skateboard  is a low-budget, entry level mini electric skateboard. It is the cheapest e-skateboard made by this reputable brand, and one of the cheapest electric skateboards out there.

First and foremost, let’s talk about the size. The vivi H2S-2 is truly that; this board is tiny! Generally speaking, anything under 30 inches long is considered a mini skateboard. This one only measures 20 inches (50.8 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, which is very small! For bigger teens and adults, you’ll simply find this skateboard too small for comfortable riding.

On top of that, this skateboard’s upper weight limit is only 110 pounds (50 kg), which is quite light, even as far as children’s electric skateboards go. The main takeaway here is: the Skatebolt Mini is really only suitable for kids…ages 8 to 12 is probably the ideal range.

The Vivi H2S-2’s deck is made of 7-ply maple, which is pretty standard for skateboards. The skateboard only weighs 7.9 pounds (3.6 kg), which is super light, making it very easy to carry. It takes 1.5 hours to charge the board, which is quite fast, and you’ll get at most 9 miles out of it before it needs to be charged again. This varies based on several factors, though, and some users report getting not nearly that far.

The motor on this skateboard is 350W, which is not very strong at all. Riders will be able to go up small hills, but nothing too steep. And the heavier you are, the harder that will become. This is why it’s especially important not to exceed, or even come too close, to the board’s upper weight limit.

In terms of riding, there are a few things to note with this skateboard. Some people report that it takes off and accelerates really fast. Some first-timers have been thrown right off during the first attempt to ride it. This is why I gave the skateboard a lower score for safety. Definitely start out with the slower of the skateboard’s two speed modes, which only goes up to 6.2 MPH (10 km/hr). The higher speed mode will get you to a maximum speed of 12.4 MPH (20 km/hr).

Related to the above problem, many riders say the Skatebolt Mini’s remote control is super sensitive, including when you try to accelerate and when you want to stop. You’ll just need to press very carefully, especially when first getting used to the board. Once riding, though, the skateboard is easy to control and even has a cruise control setting.

Last but not least, I feel the Vivi H2S-2 has a simple, cool appearance that most youths, boy or girl, will probably like.

If you’re still on the fence about the Vivi H2S-2 or it doesn’t seem like the right skateboard for you, here are some other choices you might consider.

Skatebolt Tornado: More power and size

318woqYtj L. SL500

From the same manufacturer, the Skatebolt Tornado is bigger, badder, and faster than the Skatebolt Mini. This baby can go up to 26 MPH and handle adult riders up to 280 pounds. This board is 39 inches in length, making it a longboard. Really this skateboard is the opposite of the Skatebolt in many ways, and will appeal to teenagers and adults looking for more oompf in their ride.

WOOKRAYS: More colorful mini skateboard

51AsFw6vmNL. SL500

The WOOKRAYS electric skateboard is another mini electric skateboard option. It’s about 5 inches longer than the Skatebolt Mini, but still in mini skateboard territory. It’s got the same maximum speed, but three (instead of just 2) speed modes. It can also handle riders up to 176 pounds, so it’s a better option for heavier pre-teens and even teens. Last but not least, it has a fun, colorful street art look that comes in two options. Read more about the Wookrays E-Skateboard here.

SKATEBOLT Brisk 24 Inch

41V UIQv3jL. SL500

If you’re willing to consider a higher-priced option, the Boosted Mini X Electric Skateboard is one of the best mini electric skateboards out there. Thanks to its much more powerful motor, this skateboard can reach 20 MPH and climb up steeper hills and has a range of up to 14 miles. However, it’s noticeable longer and heavier than the Skatebolt mini, nearly putting it in the regular (not mini) e-skateboard category.

Swagtron Swagskate: Bottom-of-the-line

41UMipTD9QL. SL500

At the complete opposite end of the spectrum, the Swagtron Swagskate NG-3 is an ultra-low budget electric skateboard designed for kids. The biggest strike against it is that it doesn’t come with a remote control like virtually all other electric skateboards. Instead, it automatically starts going when a rider gets on, and stops when a rider tries to dismount. Definitely takes some getting used to. You can see my detailed Skagtron Swagskate review here.

FAQ about electric skateboards

Here are a few more important points to consider when making your electric skateboard purchase.

You don’t want to be getting in trouble for riding this product, right? Unfortunately electric skateboard laws are rather confusing and depend on where you’re at. In most states of the US, they are in a legal gray area. Some states allow them, but with some restrictions about where you can ride. I address all these points in more detail in this post: Are Electric Skateboards Legal?

Do I need to wear safety gear while riding?

In short, yes! Just like traditional (non-electric) skateboards, electric skateboards are miniature transportation devices, and crashes & falls are practically inevitable. Knowing this, it only make sense to protect your body. The standard gear you or your kid should wear is a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards.

Final Verdict

The Vivi H2S-2 is a decent option for anyone looking to buy a low budget mini electric skateboard for their young kid or pre-teen. I would recommend this skateboard for ages 8-12. It’s a step up from the rock bottom end of the price range, but still a long way from super high-performance skateboards. Still, it comes with some decent features like two speed modes and cruise control.

If you do go with this board, just make sure the rider starts out on the low speed mode and presses the sensitive accelerator and brake buttons really carefully to avoid going for a tumble.
